Employment at Camp Centerland

Note: All staff must be available from mid-June to late August.

At Camp Centerland we know that the personalities and skills of our counselors and activity specialists are critical to the success of our campers.  Each member of our staff is carefully  screened and evaluated on their ability to be good role models for the kids. They are selected for  their talent, their skills in working with children, and their sincere commitment to Jewish values. In addition, an intensive orientation prepares new and returning staff for the challenges of each summer.

STAFF:

Junior Counselors

(Entering 11th and 12th grades, under 18 years of age)

This is a program for first time staff to experience working with children in grades K-8. Jr. Counselors support and assist the Sr. Counselors in running group activities and overall care of the group.

Group Counselors

(High School Graduate, 18 or older)

All senior counselors must have experience working with children. A senior counselor is in charge of a group of 10-12 campers. We look for individuals who have the ability to be a positive role model, a friend, and a guardian.

Specialists (High School Graduate)

A specialist is a staff member who works and instructs all campers at a specific area at camp. It is important for a specialist to have the knowledge to lead and teach in their specific area. Advanced education, certification or experience instructing in the designated specialty is required. Current specialties include art, music, drama, sports, high and low ropes, ceramics, nature, archery, and Jewish cultural arts.

Receptionist

The receptionist will take responsibility for all clerical duties, and will be skilled in customer relations. The Camp Receptionist will have experience in Office work and/or Human Services fields.

Unit Supervisors (21 years of age)

All supervisors are individuals who have the ability to run an area or unit. It is necessary for each supervisor to have experience working with children. We look for individuals who are studying or have a degree in teaching, social work, outdoor education, sports and rec, etc.

Lifeguards and progressive swim instructors are responsible for actively supervising all participants in the camp's aqautics activities, and may also be assigned to teach daily swim classes.

Camp Nurse (Professional Medical Certification Required)

The Camp Nurse is responsible for the health needs and care of all ill and injured campers. The Nurse will also be responsible for all administrative duties relating to the medical needs of the campers. The Camp Nurse should have previous experience working with children, and hold one of the following certifications: EMT, RN, NP/PNP, PA, MD.
